The surface of the earth is an organic combination of sophisticated layers, including soil,rock,vegetation,animal etc. Lives can enjoy a comfortable environment through the sunshine,air and water adjusted by the surface of the earth. However, the accelerated process of urbanization causes critical problems, not only to the rapid population growth and environmental pollutions, but also to the damage of the earth’s surface, which is manifested by sharply decreased forest coverage rate in appearance, and makes gradually losing regulating function of the earth’s surface essentially.

For example, people feel hot in summer and cold and windy in winter because of the massive pavement caused by lack of vegetation. The lack of vegetation leads to the lack of air purification. Without the adjustment by the water-conservation soil, excessive rain directly falls into the hard pavement, which leads to serious urban water logging/inland inundation. Recently, the ratio of greenland is stressed in urban design rules. However, not enough attention has been paid to the recovery of the functional structure of the earth’s surface.

Therefore, we created a structure called "green patch", which is used to rebuild the urban surfaces. This kind of structure stands overhead the existing urban ground. Through the design of sheltered earth, vegetation and holes, the structure combine  with the existing hard pavement and original earth, forming an organic system, which simulates the regulation function of sunshine, air and water, and rebuilds the earth surface in form and function.

The“Green patch" structures will be constructed between condense architectural complex, shaping the beautiful hilly surface with the white cement. The original driveways and sidewalks are still under the structure. The size of holes above the driveways will be increased. With the diffuse reflection of white cement surface, the lower space will be bright, which solves the problem of natural lighting but does not bring burden to the traffic. In addition, the vegetation and path formed on the structure can be used for walking, forming a park in sky and bringing vitality to a dull city.
