Design Notes:

The location of Petroleum exploration Camp was in Laofengkou, a world famous windy area in the northwest of Xinjiang, China.It is a huge flat open space, the effect of narrow is very obvious here.

The design challenge was to provide comfortable working and living condition under the extreme desert climate.

That's where we found native residence.

In consideration of the research on compound organization, we found the native method of defending wind and accumulating snow, next we use the corner to grow trees.

In consideration of the research on native residence texture, we proposed the idea of shifting compound to enhance communication.

In consideration of the research on residence module, we apply the sustainable method to our design.

Thoreau once said that city is where millions of people squeeze together solitarily.

Desert is the most solitary place in the world, however, as the home where they will live for three years, an insignificant but not lonely city is what we want.

When people leave here for a new camp, the old camp disappears, the trees remain, as an obvious evidence of the existance of temporary city.
